16 www.randomlake.org Village of Fredonia residents will re- member 2015 for a long time. The vil- lage's main street -- Fredonia Ave. -- will be reconstructed this year. New utilities were installed in 2014. For this generation the new Fredonia Ave. (also County Rd. H) will be a mile- stone. For the past generation the mile- stone involved the local schools. A law passed by the Wisconsin Legis- lature in 1959 and implemented in 1961 required all areas of the state to become part of a school district that operated a high school. Prior to that time rural el- ementary schools (grades 1-8) were in- dependent districts and the respective municipalities paid the tuition for their resident students to attend high schools in other school districts. By the 1950's most chil- dren in northern Ozaukee County chose between the Port Washington, Cedar Grove or Random Lake High Schools. Many residents supported cre- ating a new high school district in northern Ozau- kee County. After a con- troversial series of votes, a Village of Fredonia site Fredonia The finished product from a top notch school district. Fredonia's main street is being rebuilt in 2015.
