In our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of our industry, we place important focus on recycling to help decrease the amount of virgin materials extracted from the environment. In 2014, we recycled 14,260,687 pounds of paper materials and 102,780 pounds of plastic. What does this equate to? Recycling paper produces 73 percent less air pollution than using virgin materials and each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water. And recycling one ton of plastic can save the equivalent of up to 2,000 gallons of gasoline. Additionally, we recycled 13,600 pounds (34 drums) of ink, 15 drums of auto-wash, 35 drums of oil and oil absorbents, two drums of UV and 977 fluorescent light bulbs. By recycling chemicals, we help keep them out of landfills, where they could be harmful to groundwater, and also reduce the amount of virgin chemicals manufactured or extracted, which saves energy.
