Co. His new general store was hailed as a modern fireproof building. The spectacular 1931 fire triggered other changes in Random Lake. The construction of a municipal water system and sewage treatment system in Random Lake was approved by a 237-44 referendum vote on March 3, 1936. The village received a $54,405 federal grant for the project. The water system was activated on May 3, 1937, and there was an open house and dedication on Aug. 29, 1937. Many people still recall when this building housed Werner's Foods, which was operated by Harvey and Shirley Werner. Most recently it housed the Random Lake Laundromat, Video City and Random Liquor Sales. The building has been vacant for a number of years, but it's a busy place now as the Random Lake Area Historical Society's volunteer work force is making it shine again.
